AMERICAN WOODCOCK

This bird is sometimes known as the "Timberdoodle".  It is a small, chunky shorebird that is found in the Eastern half of North America.  Its habitat is forested wetlands with medium to thick cover.  It is a ground nesting bird that uses its natural camouflage to conceal its presence.  Many hikers have had this bird fly out from beneath their feet - unaware of the bird and nest directly underfoot!
